Long Time No Post

I know, I know it has been some time since I last posted here. I’ve been more focused on a lot of things, learning some new things on the fly with PHP for my $DAY_JOB and generally just riding the whole everything since the last post.

So what I’ve been up to, I think the first part is dealing with burn out again. Not the single issue burn out like before, but the burn out of just capitalism, “AI”, and the march forward in to fascism. You know easily resolvable issues.

It’s also been a little hard since my main client pulled out half the work a month, so I’ve been eating in to the backup funds to maintain my salary. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to push a need to drop down with a second client and a handful of others in the pipelines but my yearly results are pretty bad. Not going to lie that’s really taking a mental toll on me and the way I’m dealing with that is of course spending money I do not have to sit in a restaurant for an hour eating comfort food.

On the side, Jarod had a lot of vet visits to figure out why he was losing weight, after 600€ it was he didn’t like the croquettes so now he’s on a special diet one that is rather expensive. Because Samy declines to eat something different to Jarod, I now have two cats on an expensive diet food.

Out of that though they did find his blood pressure was higher than it should be, he’s now on a daily pill which for the most part has chilled him out a little as he was getting stressed a lot. Oh I forgot to mention, because Jarod was stressed, Samy of course got stressed so this all kicked off when taking Samy in for manifesting stress. Samy happily blazed through some cash to find no issue other than there is another source of stress that isn’t his health.

The positive is that they’re both OK, the negative is that their automatic litter broke down and I have to clean and repair it back in order. I really shouldn’t complain too much, I think I bought the thing in 2018.

Now the positives, I’ve upped my confidence a bit with some of the work I’ve been doing for the long term client. Finally getting around to learning how to put together simple PHP scripts from scratch (not technically applications), picking up some other skills using go-away in lieu of a third party service. The year+ I spent battling “AI” scrapers, I really did accidentally learn something.

The bigger news I guess is that I got rid of a billionaire owned internet service, I’ve moved completely out of the billionaire market and in to the smaller world of internet associations and cooperative mobile networks. We really don’t have to accept enshittification.

I’m not going to sugar coat things though, realistically it took almost two months to get my fibre line up as there are different parties involved, but the line was professionally installed, the guy waited to get access to a neighbouring building to wire in the new line. Apparently our building is connected to another one because Orange are clowns, as a small reminder the clowns at Orange were also the one that kept cutting off my line because according to their idiot technician “they own the network”.

By contrast Free’s response instead of holding Orange to account for the disconnection was to waste all of our time by sending a technician over and over again to do the same thing then not only having the audacity to charge me full price for the month, a disconnection fee even though the line was actually disconnected 10 days earlier, and of course being somewhat shocked that I didn’t consider a non-resolution an acceptable resolution.

What else do we have to update on this, I’ve been moving the domains around again. Since The United Failed State of America has fully lost it’s shit, I’m moving things out of the US as best I can. Even though Macron is marching France in to a fascist state, it’s not one yet so I’m back on the FR domain, AFNIC after all is also an association. I’m being a little more light with the .ca domain, not out of anything other than writing 40 different rules in different places is becoming troublesome. I ended up dropping the mmn site over to mmn.sus.fr

There is also the work on the e-zine I like doing rather than holding a full on website, you might have noticed that there is a bit of a split of where I write certain things. Kind of depends half on vibes but also mostly what I want to do.

I’ve been a little more hesitant to write here as it’s much harder to enforce the US Geoblock without absolutely wrecking federation and there is a massive risk that I already have a bunch of “AI” scrapers chewing through it. Honestly if your website has no interest for a US audience, just block the whole country. It saves the hassle from all the junk bots hosted at Google, AWS, and Microslop Azur.

Finally finally for realsies I’ve opened back up a donation/subscription/membership channel if you want to support some of my work, still working on what I will “paywall” for lack of a better word, the idea though is to transition this over to pay in to my business activity to start expanding on my income sources. That of course only really works if I can find something people like or want to contribute to, and I have to admit trying to capitalism like this is very hard for me.
